    Eastside Yoga Open House - Nov 5th
    Austin's newest yoga studio welcomes guests to our open house from 6-9pm. Meet the founder, Steven Ross, RYT and several teachers, who will be on hand to answer questions and give demonstrations.

    Eastside Yoga (ESY) is on a mission to make yoga accesible to all people, regardless of health or circumstance. We hope to make a positive impact on the inner and outer well-being of all who come through our doors, through a spiritual approach. We hope to evolve the way yoga is taught, progressing toward the true essence of its teaching.

    Guests will have a choice of a variety of events to participate in or observe.

    In the main yoga studio, there will be demonstrations of how yoga can be made to fit everyone at 6:30, 7 and 7:30. There will be 20 minute pranayama (breathing) interactive demonstrations at 8:00 and 8:30 given by Steven Ross.

    Cindy Burrows, an Austin nutritionist, will give a talk called "Eating Right During the Winter" from 6:00 to 6:30. A homemade chai green tea will be served.

    Eva Arbones, RYT, will teach "Yoga en Espanol," a mixed-levels class for those who enjoy a class with Spanish instruction at 6:30. Finally, Tina Brackins at 8:00 will demonstrate a technique called Repatterning, for the mind and spirit.

    Guests can enter a raffle for a chance to win a chance to win a free 10-class pass and browse the ESY Store's yoga props, locally made mat bags and healing artwork.

    It’s official: Leffingwell and McCracken in a runoff
    By Sarah Coppola | Saturday, May 9, 2009, 11:42 PM
    City Council members Lee Leffingwell and Brewster McCracken will be in a runoff to be Austin’s next mayor.

    Leffingwell won 47 percent of the vote, nearly averting a runoff. McCracken got 27 percent of the vote.

    Former state Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn received about 21 percent and conceded earlier tonight.

    Lessons learned
    * Purel bottles tied to portas = easiest way to make for happy pagans ever.
    * Bikes > golf carts.
    * Galoshes can be sexy
    * Saying "It'll knock the dust off" is asking for it.
    * Don't lock the bikes directly to the van.
    * Hot coffee and dry socks solve 90% of life's problems.

    Not dead yet
    Hey folks - it occurs to me that I haven't posted anything since leaving for festival.

    Um...

    Still alive! Trial by fire water passed with flying colors. It was not the festival I would have chosen, but given the circumstances, it was a damned fine festival. All the staff pulled together and really shone this last week. The membership kept up a good attitude and soldiered through the muck until the sun came out.

    Saturday night revel FTW.

    More to write up later... but in the end, I think if I could make it through that fest with my sense of humor and general love of humanity in tact, I think I can make it through just about anything.

    And yeah, Samhain is already being planned...
    See you next weekend!

    Life lesson
    Reminder - just because you play by the rules doesn't mean you get the prize.

    Cuz yeah, sometimes life isn't fair. What a shock.

    EDIT: As pointed out by a good friend - this doesn't mean you can or should get away with not following the rules. Just sayin'.

    Very brief update
    Pantheacon is awesome. California, not nearly as warm and sunny as I was led to believe. Pagans are pagans, no matter where you go. Learned some very fine things. Met some very fine people. Got a very fine hat.

    Flying home tomorrow.

    ....don't wanna.

    See you soon.
